As a part of the Commencement ceremony Professor of the City University of New York Branko Milanovic will read a traditional honorary lecture on economic policy in memory of Yegor Gaidar. The topic of the lecture is "Recent trends in global income inequality and their political implications".
Branko Milanovic
Branko Milanovic is one of the main experts in the world on income inequality. He worked as the Lead Economist in the World Bank's research department for nearly twenty years. He was also a research fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and was teaching at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and in the University of Maryland, College Park. Currently Branko Milanovic is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Postgraduate Studies at the City University of New York and senior fellow at the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality.
His book The Haves and the Have-nots: A Brief and Idiosyncratic History of Global Inequality (2011) won the “Book of the Year – 2011” nomination according to the Globalist, translated into 7 languages. Another book Global Inequality was awarded the Bruno Kreisky prize as the best political book of 2016, translated into 12 languages.
His main research areas are historical, methodological and empirical aspects of the problem of income inequality and poverty in certain countries and in the world in general.
Jointly with Mariana Mazzucato Branko Milanovic was awarded the 2018 Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought.
